Can the EnviroBasin™ have inlets other than a grated surface inlet?

The junction EnviroBasin™ allows for inlet pipes without impacting EnviroBasin™ performance.

Will my project become expensive if I just need to treat a few catch basins with EnviroBasin™?

This is where the EnviroBasin™ excels! The EnviroBasin™ takes the place of standard catch basins and is a fraction of the cost of a standard OGS saving money on installation and concrete while still achieving the required removal standards.

How do I know the EnviroBasin™ will meet my site requirements?

The EnviroBasin™ is ETV Verified and has a performance efficiency calculator which can be used to estimate removals for specific catchments. Fill out and email our project form to barryi@enviropod.com along with site plans and our technical team can verify the EnviroBasin™ will meet the removal required for your site.

Is EnviroBasin™ good for pretreatment?

The EnviroBasin™ is the best device on the market for pretreatment, whether it is filters, infiltration, or biofiltration. The Gross pollutant basket removes large pieces of litter and debris such as plastics or other neutrally buoyant objects that typically bypass standard OGS systems. Having multiple devices with sumps in a catchment also allows for greater sediment storage in some situations, meaning the downstream devices are focused on treating fine pollutants which extends their required maintenance frequency and helps improve their function overall.

Does the EnviroBasin™ work on large sites with many catch basins

The EnviroBasin™ is also great for large sites with many catch basins. The project with Aecom installed 35 EnviroBasins™ instead of traditional OGS in front of green infrastructure.

How often will I have to maintain the LittaTrap™?

The LittaTrap™ typically requires maintenance two to four times a year across Canada. The most commonly used unit in Canada is designed with 45 liters of storage capacity, keeping maintenance cycles low.

Please note, this number can vary, and Enviropod recommends regular checks of LittaTrap™ units for the first-year post installation to establish a site-specific maintenance plan.

Will the LittaTrap™ clog, blind or fill with leaves?

As leaves enter the LittaTrap™ unit, subsequent water pressure compresses incoming leaves and ensures they will lot clog, blind or quickly fill the LittaTrap™ unit. Enviropod does advise maintenance both before and after the fall period to minimize the effect of leaves on overall storage capacity.

Do I need to remove the LittaTrap™ unit during winter months?

The LittaTrap™ is designed from engineered structural plastics that are both UV stable and freeze resistant. Said plastics will not corrode or leech pollutants and have been extensively tested to withstand winters across multiple North American locations. Frozen water may build up in the LittaTrap but will not back up and can escape via the overflow bypass slot once it thaws.

Is the LittaTrap™ hand-maintainable at full capacity?

A standardly sized LittaTrap unit has been designed to ensure viable hand-maintenance at full capacity. Enviropod advises the unit is lifted by two workers who are trained in standard lifting technique with equipment as necessary to avoid putting unnecessary weight on lifters backs.

Will the LittaTrap™ become compromised when it reaches full capacity?

The support bracket (comprised of fibreglass reinforced plastic) has been designed assuming a load of 440 pounds in the basket at 300 liters per second pass through. In addition, structural testing completed by Enviropod has shown negligible deflection on the bracket at 580 pounds and 140 pounds on the basket. This will ensure the LittaTrapTM™ is not compromised even assuming full capacity during a once in a decade storm.

Does the LittaTrap™ cause flooding at full capacity?

An overflow bypass of 4 ½ inches has been added to the LittaTrap unit to promote optimal flow rates even when at maximum design capacity. To ensure maximum flow rates, please make sure you are maintaining the LittaTrap™ prior to 80% capacity of the basket.

Is the LittaTrap™ made from recyclable plastic?

In order to ensure the LittaTrap™ can withstand significant weight and ranging weather conditions, specific engineer structural plastics have been used that cannot be readily sourced from recyclable plastics. To minimize waste, Enviropod uses minimal packaging and online installation guides.

Are sediment and trash pollution significant problems within Canada?

The LittaTrap™ was introduced to Canada in response to the growing marine plastic problem identified via the Ocean Plastics Charter. A body of water that provides 21% of the worlds water supply, the Great Lakes are currently subjected to an estimated 22 million pounds of plastic debris annually with significant sediment pollution also occurring. This pollution can be minimalized through LittaTrap™ installation.

Do EnviroPod™ provide installation services in Canada?

EnviroPod™ can provide nationwide installation services through the recommended installation provider, Minotaur Stormwater Services.

Can the LittaTrap™ catch pollutants smaller than the five-millimeter screen?

A standard LittaTrap™ unit is supplied with a five-millimeter, enabling the capture of over 99% of gross pollutants whilst keeping maintenance cycles relatively low. Capture can be enhanced through a performance enhancing liner which will enable the capture of additional pollutants such as plastic pellets, PVC cuttings and microplastics.

Does the LittaTrap™ capture plastic pellets?

The performance of the LittaTrap™ can be enhanced by adding the plastic pellet liner which enables the capture of all pollutants greater in size than one millimeter. Plastic pellets are sized two to five millimeters, so full capture of pellets is achievable. Given the density of plastic pellets, they are prone to floating in water. As a result, Enviropod recommends utilizing the bypass removal feature for application when attempting to capture plastic pellets. Units in this application will require additional maintenance to ensure units do not cause flooding.

Does the LittaTrap™ remove sediment?

Yes, LittaTrap™ installation facilitates reduced resuspension through energy dissipation. This enables significantly higher capture of sediment at the sump of the catch basin, with third party testing showing 50% TSS removal at four liters per second.

Will the LittaTrap™ bag bulge?

The LittaTrap™ basket has been designed with a structural baton running across all four sides of this design. This will prevent the bag from bulging, even at full capacity. As a result, the weight will be evenly distributed which will make maintenance easier and help promote optimal water flow.

Can I install a LittaTrap™ unit without Enviropod™ assistance?

The LittaTrap™ has been designed with ease of installation in mind. Few parts have kept installation as simple as possible, and the device can be installed by all installation providers. To ensure confidence, see Enviropod™ installation video available at our website.

What if my catch basin is not standardly sized?

Enviropod has a variety of sizes and configurations that have enabled install across ranging catch basin structures. The LittaTrap™ can be installed inside grate inlet, curb inlet and manhole units with custom seal kits available for unique catch basin structures.

Can a LittaTrap™ be installed inside a manhole unit?

Yes, Enviropod use a manhole adaptor kit to offer customers a solution for circular structures across ranging diameters. For more information, please contact Enviropod.

Can a LittaTrap™ be installed inside a curb-inlet unit?

Yes, Enviropod can provide custom solutions based on the size of the curb-inlet unit. For more information, please contact Enviropod.

Can the LittaTrap™ basket be maintained with a vactor truck?

Yes, LittaTrap™ maintenance is encouraged via use of a vactor truck where hand maintenance is not possible. Usage of a rubber boot and the base of the vactor hose is optimal to avoid a potential tear of the LittaTrap™ bag.

How will the LittaTrap™ help reduce my costs?

The LittaTrap™ will capture over 99% of all gross pollutants and 50% percent of all total suspended solids (TSS) running into a stormwater drain, equating to approximately 75 percent of the total loading. This will decrease the risk of pipe blockages, reduce the need for a maintenance contractor, protect technology further downstream (i.e. – Jellyfish or Oil Grit Separator) and help you to meet environmental targets.

At what basket capacity should I be maintaining the LittaTrap™?

It is recommended that all LittaTrap™ units are maintained prior to reaching 80 percent capacity as this will enable optimal water conductivity at all times. In the event that your LittaTrap™ reaches full capacity, water will still bypass, and the unit’s structure will support the weight of the basket and incoming water flows indefinitely.

Is the LittaTrap™ basket affected by runoff from road salting and/or sanding?

The LittaTrap™ is not degraded, clogged or otherwise affected by annual salting and/or snowing of roads during the winter months. The LittaTrap™ unit is made from engineered structural plastics that will not corrode or leach pollutants in the event of salting or sanding. Similarly to TSS capture, the LittaTrap™ will capture significant quantities of sand and salt that enter catch basins, and stop these harmful pollutants entering waterways.
