To meet the Full Trash Capture requirements as set out by the State of California, the City of Huntington Beach needed a BMP that was approved by the California Water Board for Full Trash Capture, was affordable, can remove hydrocarbons and is easy to maintain.

Historically the City has purchased from the same manufacturer, but this year they were introduced to the EnviroPod™ LittaTrap™ Catch Basin Insert .

The EnviroPod™ LittaTrap™ is approved as a Full Trash Capture Device by the California Water Board, and fifteen EnviroPod™ LittaTrap™ EMMA Curb Inlet Filters with Full Trash Capture Liners and oil absorbent pouches were approved and installed for the City of Huntington Beach. The 15 x CB that were selected by the City are deemed to be high priority areas – areas thought of as high trash loading areas.

The EMMA configuration (Easy Maintenance Manhole Access) positions the EnviroPod™ LittaTrap™ basket under the access hole (manhole) reducing maintenance costs and avoiding confined space entry. The EMMA configuration also introduces a new adaptor kit - the EMMA trough - which allows the flows from the curb to be directed to the manhole regardless of where the manhole is in the catch basin. This EMMA design is adjustable and scalable to fit any size or configuration of catch basin.

LittaTrap™ EMMA installed

“The City of Huntington Beach is using the EnviroPod™ LittaTrap™ catch basin filter inserts to prevent the discharge of trash and debris into our local municipal storm drain system and downstream receiving water bodies. As a certified full-capture device, EnviroPod™ LittaTrap™ catch basin filters also help the City achieve compliance with the Trash Amendments which requires the installation of certified full-capture trash removal devices designed to capture trash/debris 5mm and greater. I would strongly recommend EnviroPod™ to anyone who needs help with achieving compliance with the Trash Amendments.”

Jim Merid, Environmental Services Manager, Public Works at City of Huntington Beach, Orange County, CA

EnviroPod™ worked with Ocean Blue, a Class One contractor on the installation, and the City were delighted with the clean and professional finish.

Home to the Vans U.S. Open of Surfing, Huntington Beach surfers and bathers will be pleased to know that the waters are now cleaner thanks to EnviroPod™ LittaTrap™.
